CHRISTINE, N.D. (NDHP) – A semi truck caught on fire while traveling on Interstate 29 Tuesday, January 23rd after its tire blew out.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol says they responded to a vehicle fire around 2:30 p.m. on Interstate 29, near mile marker 44. According to a report, the semi truck, driven by 40-year-old Sala Romero of Miami, Fla., was traveling south when its driver-side axle tire blew.

The crash caused the truck to quickly catch on fire. Romero was able to safely exit before the truck and trailer was fully engulfed. Officials say the truck was loaded with rubber mats on-route to Illinois from Jamestown.

The crash caused southbound I-29 to be closed for several hours, causing a detour off the Christine exit. Romero was cited for driving with a suspended license. No injuries were reported from this incident.
