Curtis “Curt” Micheal Schall (Micheal is his correct spelling), 68, of Enderlin, ND was the firstborn child to Leo Schall and Margaret “Marge” (Pfaff) Schall on September 4th, 1955, in Valley City, ND.  On January 24th, 2024, at 2:30am he passed away peacefully from cancer under Hospice care in his home in Nome, ND, where he lived for almost 40 years.

Curt and his wife Leanne are members of Hope Free Lutheran Church in Enderlin; however, prayer services and the funeral will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church (the brick one across from the school) in Enderlin, due to its larger size.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 10:30am with lunch served afterwards at Trinity Lutheran Church in Enderlin.  Visitation will be on Friday, January 26, from 5-7 pm with a prayer service at 7:00pm at the church.  Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery of rural Valley City in the spring.

Curt was raised in Litchville, ND until 3rd grade when the family moved to Enderlin.  He graduated from Enderlin High School in 1974. He started working for Leo at Schall Plumbing and Heating as a young teen, going on his first solo service call at 14 years old. He worked for Leo for several years before taking one year off to work for his uncle, Bill Pfaff, of Pfaff Plumbing and Heating. After working for Bill, he went back and worked the rest of his career at Schall Plumbing and Heating. He bought the business from his mom and dad who owned the business for 23 years in 1993 and became a certified Master Plumber.  Curt and Leanne sold the Enderlin plumbing shop property in 2021, when they moved the business and inventory to their house in Nome, where they continued the business. Curt and his wife, Leanne Smedshammer, owned it for almost 31 years, before closing the doors permanently at the end of 2023 due to his cancer.

In 1975 Curt married his first wife, Kathy Plecity, and together they had two amazing sons, Cory and Steven Schall. Curt and Kathy were married for almost 10 years.

In 1993, Curt met and married Leanne Smedshammer, who also had two wonderful sons from a previous marriage, Lee and Sam Menge.  They made their home together in Nome where Curt was already living. They were married for well over 30 years until his death.

In Curt’s younger adult years, he was an avid race car driver, winning many many trophies. He also loved hunting, fishing, working on vehicles, and inventing his own tools whenever a need arose. There were a lot of needs over the years, so he invented MANY tools. He could fix almost anything, as long as it wasn’t electronic!

He had an excellent sense of humor too. That’s one of the traits which drew so many people to him. Curt was a very hard worker, and people had much respect for him. He loved helping all his kids with different projects and loved teasing the grandkids.

Curt is survived by his wife Leanne Smedshammer of Nome; four sons Cory (Keri) Schall of Oakes ND, Steven (Rachel) Schall of Fargo ND, Lee (Bonitta) Menge of Leonard ND, and Sam (Rachel) Menge of Moorhead MN; two sisters Debra Anderson of Phoenix AZ, and Linda (Gary) Bunn of Minco OK; twelve grandkids Hali, Taylor (Katie), Conor, Hudson, Landon, Sawyer, Annika, Tanner, Nolan, Jericho, Asher, and Adah; 3 nephews Jesse (Wendie), Eric, and Mikey.

He was preceded in death by his parents Marge and Leo; brothers Ed and Richard; and nephew Shane Bunn.

Curt (along with his sense of humor, and many of his amusing stories from the past), will be deeply missed around the community, and most of all by his wife, family, and friends.

He’ll forever be our Curt but is now living a blessed pain free life (he lived with severe pain since he was about 14 years old) in a perfect body, worshipping and loving our Lord and Savior.  “He left the 99 to rescue me.”

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City.  An online guestbook is available at www.oliver-nathanchapel.com
