TORNADO BBALL ROUND UP: Boys and Girls End Losing Streaks

Oakes, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes boys and girls basketball teams went into Friday on 3 game losing streaks but both were able to turn it around with wins. The Girls beat Enderlin 65-34 while the Boys beat Maple River 62-35.

Girls Basketball 1/19: RV Oakes 65 – 34 Enderlin

The Girls were able to beat Enderlin handedly on Friday as they dominated play through out the game. They started the game shooting 9/15 to score 20 points in the first quarter while holding the Eagles to 6. They had the lead at the half at 35-18. The lead was built with a strong 2nd half where they went 13/23 in the second half to score another 30 points and take the 65-34 victory.

They were lead in scoring by Molly Sitzler who scored 17 going 7/14 from the field. Brianna Schmitz was second leader on Oakes going 7/9 for 16 points on the night. The all around leading scorer however was Aspyn Schlecht who scored 25 on the night having a career night.

The Bank North Players of the Game was Sitzler and Schmitz.

The Tornadoes are once again at .500 inside of District 1 play and continue District play against Tri-State on Monday January 22nd at 7:00. You can catch all the action on KDDR The Tornado.

Boys Basketball 1/20: Oakes 62 – 35 Maple River

The Boys were able to get back into the win column after crushing the Raiders. Much like the girls they dominated the game early and prevented many points in the first half and the first quarter leading 20-9 after 1 quarter and 34-19 at the half. They would have a slow start in the third quarter eventually turning around and getting back on top for the 62-35 victory.

The leader in scoring was Trey Skoglund who went 6/10 from the field and 5/5 from the line for 17 points. Next was Carter Baasch from Maple River who went 7/12 from the field for 14 points.

The Bank North Player of the Game was Roddek Schmit for his outstanding defense with a lot of steals and shutting down many passes and shots.

The Tornadoes return to .500 in District 1 play and continue District play against Richland on Tuesday January 23rd in Oakes at 7:00. You can catch all the action on KDDR The Tornado.
