Grace Ellen Lakefied Vannett, born December 21, 1941, on her family’s farm in Renville County, North Dakota, died peacefully Saturday, January 13, 2024, under the care of Red River Hospice at Eventide on Eighth in Moorhead, MN. Grace joins her husband Alden Vannett, preceding her in death on August 7, 2023. Married on August 12, 1962, Alden and Grace enjoyed 61 years together, living in Minot, ND, Eau Claire WI, and Jamestown, ND.
Grace is survived by her three adult children, Jodi Vannett, Maple Lake, MN, Jon Vannett, Moorhead, MN, and Joe and Melisha Vannett, Moorhead, MN. Grace is also survived by her sister Gladys Lakefield, Sherwood, ND, Renee and Don Frasier, West Hope, ND, Carol Vannett, Minot, ND, Carla Vannett, Minot, ND, and Cheryl and Paul Jaschob, Bismarck, ND.
Her grandchildren include Abby Vannett, Zachary and Rosie Vannett, Jacob Vannett, and Brennen Vannett. Great Grandchildren include Braiden and Elizabeth Camarero, and 7 nephews and 11 nieces, and many great-nephews and nieces. She was loved by her family’s pets including Benny, Lucky, Egore, Floki, and Suvi. Preceded in death by sister Rose, brothers Ervin, Lorn, Roy, and Roger, and parents Rene Lakefied and Leona Bergerson.
Growing up on a farm north of Minot ND, Grace graduated from Sherwood High School in 1959 and was a 1962 graduate of Trinity School of Nursing in Minot, ND. Grace worked over 45 years as a RN, starting at Trinity Hospital in Minot ND, as a Medical Surgical Nurse to a Supervisor Charge Nurse working in the Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Room at Jamestown Regional Medical Center, where she retired in 2009.
Grace was involved in a number of groups and associations including the American Legion Auxiliary for over 51 years. She always stayed busy crafting, scrapbooking, researching her family’s genealogy, and enjoyed attending her hospital luncheons and going to casinos with her sister Gladys. She loved going to her children’s and grandchildren’s hockey, soccer, and baseball games and spending time taking care of her family at their lake home on Little Pelican Lake in MN.
Please join us for her visitation at 4pm and prayer service at 7pm at Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown, ND on Thursday, January 25, and her funeral service on Friday, January 26 at 10:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jamestown, ND.
