JAMESTOWN – University of Jamestown Division 1 Men’s Hockey returned from its month-long break from competition Friday with a 3-2 victory over McKendree University at Wilson Arena.
Logan Berggren scored a powerplay goal and an assist for the fourth-ranked Jimmies, who improved to 15-4.
Jonathan Davenport put McKendree in front 1-0 with just over seven minutes left in the first period, but Carter Johnson’s ninth goal, set up by Berggren, tied the game with 2:42 left in the opening frame.
With 11 seconds left in the first period, McKendree’s Rycol Davis took a delay of game penalty. Alek Erichuk won the ensuing faceoff, sent the puck to Matthew Poole, who found Berggren for his eighth goal with only six seconds to go in the opening period.
Jordan Barensky scored another Jimmie powerplay goal, his ninth of the year, with 46 seconds gone in the second period to gave Jamestown a 3-1 lead.
McKendree’s Matias Alexandrov scored with 7:09 left in the third period to cut the Jimmie lead to one.
Jamestown outshot McKendree 51-20. Brandon Weare made 18 saves in net.
Jamestown will again host McKendree Saturday night at 7:00 at Wilson Arena.
