Thursday night, the Hi-Liners played their most complete game of the season against the Northern Cass Jaguars to take a two-game lead in the Region 1 standing.

The first quarter would showcase how both sides would conduct their business in this game. For the Jaguars, the burden of scoring fell entirely on the shoulders of Haidyn Crockett, who scored nine of the Jaguar’s 13 points in the quarter. The Hi-Liners would use a complete team effort as six players scored for Valley City to produce 21 points, taking an eight-point advantage into the second quarter.

The second would again see Crockett shine as her ten-point effort helped propel the Jaguars to a lead midway through the second. Kailee Nelson, who was in for Dacota Potratz because of foul trouble, banked in a three to give the Hi-Liners the lead, and then Drew Potratz knocked down a buzzer-beater three-pointer to give the Hi-Liners a four-point lead at the break.

The third quarter would be a lockdown defensive quarter for the Hi-Liners, keeping the Jaguars in check and holding them to only nine points. Dacota Potratz led the way for Valley City in the third, scoring seven of the Hi-Liner’s 16 points to take a 49-38 advantage into the final quarter.

The Hi-Liners would continue to ride the hot hand of Dacota Potratz throughout the entirety of the second half as she finished with a team-high 25 points, while Katie Burchill finished with 14, and Tesa Olson finished with 11 points to help cap off a 71-51 win. Crockett of Northern Cass would end with a game-high 31 points, but no other Jaguar was able to finish in double figures on the night.

The Hi-Liners move to 9-2 on the year and 6-0 in Region 1 play as they take a two-game lead halfway through the Region 1 schedule. The next Hi-Liner game you can hear on KOVC will be January 15th, when the Hi-Liners host the Oak Grove Grovers.
