JAMESTOWN – Dordt’s teams made the big plays at the right times Wednesday and left the Jamestown Jimmies with home basketball losses at Harold Newman Arena.

The Dordt women, ranked at the top in the last NAIA Women’s Basketball Poll, started the fourth quarter with a 17-7 run to break a tie and defeat Jamestown 74-63.

Dordt’s men used 29 points from leading scorer Lucas Lorenzen and tough second-half defense to hold off the Jimmies 92-79 and end Jamestown’s seven-game winning streak.

Women: Dordt 74, Jamestown 63
In her return after missing two games in concussion protocol, Kate Cordes brought the Jimmies back from a 10-point first-half deficit by scoring 14 points, including four three-pointers, in the third quarter, where Jamestown outscored Dordt 25-17 and forced a 51-51 tie through 30 minutes.  But, in that run to open the final quarter, Bailey Beckman scored seven points and Karly Gustafson had six for the Defenders (14-1, 9-0 GPAC).

Jamestown (8-8, 4-6 GPAC) came within five in the last minute before Dordt sealed the game with free throws.

Beckman led Dordt with 16 points.  Grace Schoonhoven added 15 off the bench, with six rebounds.  Gustafson scored 14 with six rebounds.  Macy Sievers contributed 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists and five steals.

Cordes scored 17, all in the second half, for Jamestown to lead all scorers.  Kia Tower scored 14 to move into a tie for fourth in the all-time scoring list for Jimmie Women’s Basketball.  Audrey Rodakowski popped in 11 points with six rebounds.

Dordt forced 17 turnovers and outscored Jamestown in points off turnovers 19-4.

Men: Dordt 92, Jamestown 79
Dordt prevailed despite not having Lorenzen on the floor for over eight minutes in the second half.  He picked up his fourth foul with 13:34 remaining, after which the Defenders (12-4, 5-3 GPAC) engineered a 15-6 run to increase a four-point lead to 13.

Lorenzen also had seven rebounds as he led four Dordt double-figure scorers.  Bryce Coppock scored 21 with eight rebounds.  Connor Millikan dropped in 14.  Luke Rankin scored 11.

Silas Bennion led Jamestown (9-8, 4-5 GPAC) with 22 points, including three three-pointers.  Cole Woodford also hit three three-pointers and tallied 13 points.  Colby Vazquez scored 12 off the bench, and Antonio Chandler added 10 in his reserve role.  Jimmy Llinas was held to six points, but collected a career-high 17 rebounds.

Dordt shot 50 percent from the field, while holding the Jimmies to 41 percent.
