VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City High School students are encouraged to participate in a volunteer opportunity in the Fargodome on Tuesday, January 9th.

9-12 VCHS students have the opportunity to participate in an incredible event called “Feed My Starving Children” (FMSC).  FMSC is an organized food packing event that will take place in the Fargodome.  The organizers are expecting thousands of volunteers from all over the region to participate.  This is a global awareness event.  The goal is to package high-protein, nutritious food kits to send out to other countries where starvation is a true problem. Participation in this event is optional and only open to 9-12 graders.

Students interested in participating will be transported by bus to the Fargodome.  We’ll be assigned stations to work for a 2-hour block, and we will return to VCHS by 12:30/1:00 pm.  Students will be granted ½ hour Lunch break when we return to the high school.

Busses will load at 8:20 SHARP to arrive in Fargo on-site to begin our shift at 9:30 AM.

All 9-12 students are expected to have a cumulative of 25 volunteer service hours over the course of their 4 years of high school. Participating in community service events such as this looks great on resumes for scholarships and applications of all types.  There is no greater feeling than the feeling of serving others.  Students in grades 9-12 who are interested should sign up in the North Office (at Melissa’s desk) ASAP.

Students MUST have a parent-signed permission slip on file and proper winter coats/clothes for the bus ride, or they will not be permitted to attend. Permission slips need to be turned in by Monday January 8th.
