FREMONT, NE – University of Jamestown Basketball swept Midland University Saturday at the Wikert Event Center.  The Jimmie women won with ease 74-50.  There was nothing of ease for the Jimmie men, who recovered from a 20-point second-half deficit to defeat the Warriors 109-108 in overtime.

Women: Jamestown 74, Midland 50
After trailing briefly early, Jamestown cruised to a third win in four games.
Kate Busek scored all of her 12 points on four three-pointers to lead the Jimmies (8-7, 4-5 GPAC). Audrey Rodakowski scored 11 with five rebounds. Jailyn Martinson scored 10. Kia Tower and Sara Lenz each scored nine. Lenz again started in place of leading scorer Kate Cordes, who missed her second straight game with a concussion.
Sarah Shepherd scored 11 for Midland (3-11, 0-8).

Men: Jamestown 109, Midland 108 (OT)
A stunning comeback extended the Jamestown men’s winning streak to seven.
Derek Merwick, who scored a game-high 40 points for Midland, hit a jumper with 17:08 to play to give Midland a 60-40 lead. Gradually following that, Jamestown cut into the Midland lead, coming to within two at 92-90 on a Will Cordes layup with 1:04 left in regulation. Midland’s Jake Orr hit two free throws with 36 seconds to go before Antonio Chandler hit a layup with 25 second left to cut the Midland lead to 94-92. The Warriors were up 95-92 when Merwick fouled Cordes with eight seconds left. Cordes made the first free throw, but missed the second. Chandler then drove in for an offensive rebound and a tying layup, forcing overtime.
Jamestown trailed by three in overtime before Chandler hit two free throws with 2:50 left. Merwick hit a layup 11 seconds later for Midland, with Chandler hitting a layup with 2:14 left, leaving Midland with a 103-102 lead.
Colby Vazquez then made a steal and drove for a layup with 1:02 left to give the Jimmies their first lead of the game at 104-103.
Cordes hit three more free throws, then Vazquez forced another steal, followed by a Silas Bennion layup with five seconds left for Jamestown’s final points.
Chandler led Jamestown (9-7, 4-4) with 26 points and 10 rebounds. 20 of Chandler’s points came after halftime. Vazquez scored 19 with six steals. Bennion scored 16 points. Cole Woodford hit three three-pointers and scored 14. Jimmy Llinas earned his second straight double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Cordes scored 11.
Merwick also had five rebounds and seven assists for Midland (7-9, 2-6). Orr scored 26 with 10 rebounds. Jeffrey Rozelle III scored 14, with Ryan Larsen tallying 13 points. Jake Rueschhoff had 11.
