The Valley City Hi-Liner girls basketball team bounced back after losing to Carrington earlier in the week with a lockdown defensive performance against the Lisbon Broncos.

Nothing came easy for the visiting Broncos as the Hi-Liner made sure that there were no easy looks at the basket while limiting second-chance opportunities, holding Lisbon to just two points in the first quarter. Meanwhile, Valley City set up a balanced attack from inside and outside the arc in the first half as Drew Potratz splashed in three from deep to lead all scorers at the break with nine.

The second quarter saw Lisbon’s offense wake up as they grinded out fourteen points to show a little life. However, the Hi-Liners matched the Lisbon surge, scoring fifteen points in the second quarter to take a 29-16 lead into the half.

This time, there would be no second-half rally for the opposition. The Valley City defense would clamp down, holding Lisbon to just five points in the third while piling on 21 points behind a balanced team effort where seven different Hi-Liners scored during the quarter. The fourth would see few points scored by either team as both sides emptied their benches, with Valley City again holding Lisbon to just five points in the quarter to roll to a 57-25 win.

Valley City now sits at 7-2 on the year, with their next contest coming on January 8th at home against Central Cass.
