JAMESTOWN – A brief winning streak ended Wednesday for Jamestown Jimmies Women’s Basketball, but the Jimmie men kept their impressive streak going.

Concordia (NE) rallied in the third quarter to defeat the Jamestown women 69-63 at Harold Newman Arena and end the Jimmies’ two-game winning streak, then the Jimmie men stopped the Bulldogs 89-79 for their sixth win in a row.

Women: Concordia 69, Jamestown 63
The big story for Jamestown turned out to be written two days earlier. Kate Cordes, the Jimmies’ leading scorer at nearly 19 points per game, suffered a concussion during practice on Monday and wasn’t available for Wednesday’s game.

Kia Tower took up a lot of the scoring missed with Cordes’ absence. Tower led Jamestown (7-6, 3-4 GPAC) with 18 points and four three-pointers, including 11 and three threes in the first half, after which Jamestown led 33-28.

But 11th-ranked Concordia (9-2, 5-2) started the third quarter with a 12-3 run in the period’s first 1:57 and kept the lead for the remainder of the game. Sadie Powell scored 10 of the points in that run and led the Bulldogs with 21 points. Abby Krieser scored 14 points for Concordia and Kristin Vieselmeyer added 12. The Bulldogs’ leading scorer, Taysha Rushton, was held to three points.

Jamestown had nearly another double-double from Audrey Rodakowski, who managed 11 points and nine rebounds.

The Jimmies were done in by turnovers, committing 28, 18 of which were Concordia steals. Concordia, who had lost at home to Jamestown in December, outscored the Jimmies in points off turnovers 33-12.

Men: Jamestown 89, Concordia 79
Jamestown used a balanced and, at times, patient offense to earn a sixth straight win and avenge a December loss at Seward.

Five Jimmies scored in double figures, with Silas Bennion leading the way with 20 points. Colby Vazquez again starred off the bench, scoring 15 points with two three-pointers in only 18 minutes. Cole Woodford nailed four three-pointers and scored 14. Jimmy Llinas scored 10 points with 11 rebounds for his sixth double-double this season. Antonio Chandler scored 10 points and nine rebounds for Jamestown (8-7, 3-4).

Tristan Smith scored 20 with 13 rebounds to lead Concordia (9-4, 4-3). Smith scored 17 of his points in the second half. Noah Schutte scored 17. Jaxon Stueve and Tyler Harre each scored 12 off the bench for the Bulldogs, with Stueve hitting three three-pointers and Harre knocking down four.

With 55% field goal shooting in the first half, Jamestown built as much as a 22-point lead before leading 48-33 at halftime. Behind Smith and Schutt, Concordia whittled the lead to as little as three with 4:53 remaining. Jamestown hit free throws down the stretch to hang on, making 19 of 22 at the foul line.

The Jimmies will next play Saturday against Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska.  Coverage will begin Saturday at 1:30 PM on The Voice of the Jimmies, Jamestown 107.1.
