Larry Paul Langemo was born on April 1st, 1950, to Paul T. Langemo and Norma (Borgen) Langemo. He grew up on a farm near Fingal, ND. Being the eldest of five, he learned what family, hard work, and sacrifice were all about. After graduation, he entered the Navy and was stationed in Germany during the conflict of Vietnam. His knowledge and aptitude with communication devices lead him to serving in the US. Naval Security Group. Prior to his tour ending, he received a Meritorious Unit Citation, Good Conduct Award, and The National Defense Service Medal. Larry returned home in 1976 and although he was soft spoken, his knowledge and words of wisdom were always welcome. He served on the police force for 2 years in Wahpeton, where he met and married his best friend and love, Pearl Violet Bustch. They made a home in Dilworth, MN. and Larry continued to attend NDSSS and graduated with an Associate of Science Degree in Insurance and Real Estate studies. While living in Dilworth, he attended Moorhead State to pursue his 2nd love, music. He became proficient in guitar, drums, tenor saxophone and dabbled with piano. His wish was to someday educate and share his love with others. But his life took him down a different path. He was skilled in many trades, including glass cutting, construction and sandblasting. In 1987, he moved his family to Valley City, where he owned and operated Larry’s Glass Shop for a number of years. At the same time, he and Pearl managed the American Legion, bartenders at the Eagles and worked with Sam Hill Paint and Glass Shop. He later was employed with Dakota Machine Incorporated (DMI) while both his son Paul W. and dad Paul T. worked there also. After 10 years with the company he became unable to maintain a 40 hour work week due to illness. After years of hard work, he retired and was considered disabled, but that never hindered him from caring, playing and helping raise his grandchildren. They brought joy and happiness to both of them and were the light of their lives. Pearl passed in January of 2020 and will be laid to rest with Larry in the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery in Mandan.
Larry is survived by his dad, Paul T. Jamestown; his children, Barrett, Bismarck, Paul W. (Amy Elstrom) Valley City and daughter Jess (Nick) Streich, Valley City; his grandchildren David, Kieler, Alison, Riley, Marley, and Kade,Ethan, Aubrey and Ella, Darrick, Allyson and Eli; siblings, Barbara (Andy) McCants, Gene Langemo and Annette (Myron) Buechler; and many nieces and nephews.
He is proceeded in death by his mom, Norma, his brother Danny, son Brian and wife Pearl. Although there was no cure to be found, he never let that define his strength and character. His sense of humor and wit were apparent to the end. His heart was strong and full of love for his family. His capacity for learning was present throughout the many adaptations that were necessary to this day and age. He will be greatly missed.
