jimmies-3

VALLEY CITY, ND  (NewsDakota.com)  Saturday brought another power outage to Valley City, disrupting another basketball game, but it did not disrupt the Jimmies.

The University of Jamestown women used a 19-2 run in the second, and a 17-2 run the third to run past the Viking women 68-58, while the Jimmie men forced 15 turnovers and overcame a Viking second-half rally to top VCSU 89-78.

For the Jimmie men, it was a fifth consecutive win, pulling them back to .500 at 7-7.  For the women, it kept their record above the break-even level, now 7-6.

Valley City State took a 23-16 lead after a quarter of womens play, and ran the lead to 26-16 early in the second, but surrendered a 19-2 run, and eventually trailled by eight late in the second quarter.

A 17-2 Jimmie run blew the deficit for the Vikings out to 59-40 before a late run cut the difference.

Kate Cordes led the Jimmies with 18 points, while Audrey Rodakowski scored 16 and pulled down 10 rebounds.  Ashlyn Diemert led the Vikings with 19 points, capturing Ivy Real Estate Group player of the game honors.  Ellie Braaten and Adriana Torres added 11.

The Vikings fell to 6-7 with the loss.

In mens play, the Jimmies led 13-2 to start the game, before a long, steady climb by the Vikings tied the game in the second half.  But Will Cordes’ 12 second-half points surged UJ to the finish.

Cordes led five Jimmies in double figures.  Silas Bennion scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds.  Cole Woodford and Christian Lietz each added 14, and Jimmy Llinas knocked in 13.

The Vikings were paced by Cleveland Bedgood, who tallied 19, winning Ivy Real Estate Group honors.  Lamar Grayson chipped in 13.  The Viking men are now 7-6.
