The Hi-Liners never got a rhythm against the Firebirds in either contest as Devils Lake rolled to a pair of commanding victories.

The first contest saw the Hi-Liner girls square off with Lady Firebirds, and from the word go, things went downhill for Valley City. Devils Lake started the game on a 10-0 run before Valley City dented the scoreboard, as turnovers were a key factor early in the game. The second quarter would play out much like the first, as Valley City trailed 29-17 entering the break. At the beginning of the third, the Hi-Liners would once again be on the wrong side of a run as Devils Lake opened the third on an 11-0 run, as they smoothly pulled away for what would turn out to be a 62-29 win to hand Valley City their first loss of the season.

The boys’ game would be slightly more competitive early on as the Firebirds used four three-pointers in the opening frame to open up a 20-12 lead over Valley City. The defense for the Hi-Liners would limit Devils Lake to 30 points over the next two quarters, but the offense couldn’t muster a response as they were held to 18 points over the next two quarters. When all was said and done, the Firebirds cruised to a 66-38 win to move to 4-1 on the year.

Next up for the Hi-Liners will be the inaugural Valley City Shootout on December 28th-30th, which you can listen to on KOVC.
