BISMARCK – More frustration happened for Jamestown Blue Jays Girls Basketball Tuesday, then the Blue Jay boys played well, still falling short.

St. Mary’s swept the varsity basketball doubleheader, with the girls winning 59-51 and the boys 73-70 at the St. Mary’s Central High School Gym.

The Blue Jay girls (2-4, 0-3 WDA) hit seven of their first 14 shots before turnovers plagued them.

Lexi Gerving led St. Mary’s (3-3, 1-2) with 19 points.  Natalie Benning added 15 and Mataya Messer scored 14 with 10 rebounds.

Mea Ulland led the Blue Jays with 17 points and knocked down five three-pointers, including four in the second half.  Amelia Newman scored 11.  Mari Anderson had 11 rebounds and Hannah Attleson had 10 boards.

Jamestown’s girls will next play Friday at top-ranked Minot.

The Blue Jay boys raced back from a 15-point second half deficit for a brief lead, but couldn’t stop sophomore forward Christian Benning, who led St. Mary’s (1-5, 1-2) with 33 points, including six three-pointers.  Nick Roemmich added 14 for the Saints, with Jackson Barth scoring 10.

Thomas Newman had another big night for Jamestown (1-3, 1-2), scoring 29 points, 21 of which came in the second half.  Dalton Lamp scored 18.

The Blue Jays shot well from the floor at 48 percent, but St. Mary’s was even better at 57 percent.

Jamestown will host a top-five team, Minot, at Jerry Meyer Arena on Friday night.  Coverage will begin at 6:30 on The Voice of the Blue Jays, Jamestown 107.1.
