jimmies-3

Jamestown N.D.- Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams were in action Saturday morning inside the Newman Arena in Jamestown.

The women would pick up their fifth win of the season, as they outlasted a very game St. Mary’s team in the opener. The Jimmies had control early on in the first quarter, only to watch the Flames splash a plethora of three-pointers to steal an early lead. Jamestown would regroup as they took a 45-40 lead into the half, led by Kate Cordes, who finished with a team-high 29 points.

After the intermission, both sides remained inseparable as the Jimmies shifted the focus from the perimeter to the inside. Audrey Radakowski would lead the way with seven points in the third frame to give the Jimmies a narrow 59-51 lead. Jamestown would finally pull away in the late stages of the fourth quarter as Samantha Paulsen would cap off a great night off the bench with 13 points, securing an 84-70 win.

The next contest would feature the Jamestown men taking on the Dickinson State Bluehawks in what would end up being an electrifying contest. The first half consisted of both teams exchanging a barrage of three-pointers, as Silas Bennion, Will Cordes, and Colby Vasquez all finished the half with nine points. Despite this balanced effort, the Jimmies would be behind at the half 39-35.

But in the second half, it would be the Spencer Barr show, as the Freshman from Aberdeen, South Dakota, would erupt for 19 points in the half to lead all scores with 23 total points as he helped the Jimmies outscore Dickinson State 60-50 in the second half propelling Jamestown to a 95-89 win.

The next game for the Jamestown men’s team will be Friday, December 15th against Valley City, while the women’s team will have to wait until Sunday, December 17th, to take on Carroll (Mont.).
