JAMESTOWN, ND (NewsDakota.com) In a high-scoring, fast-paced opener, a wild first half settled into a tough challenge from West Fargo that Jamestown could not overcome.
Six Packers scored in double figures in a 93-88 win over the Blue Jays Friday night at Jerry Meyer Arena in Jamestown.
It was the first win of the season for a Packers team that has made a habit of scoring since their opener. They scored 85 points against West Fargo Sheyenne in their previous matchup.
The Jays found a way to hit offensively, but struggled at times defensively in their first game of a new defensive system, a system that showed, at times, flashes of what could be good things to come.
West Fargo built a 21-10 lead, only to see Jamestown begin to force turnovers and take advantage of a fast transition game, responding with a 13-0 run and an eventual 31-10 run, taking a 41-31 lead.
The Packers countered by ending the opening half on a 21-4 run to lead 52-45 at the break. The Jays managed to tie at one point in the second half, but West Fargo answered every challenge the rest of the way behind five double-figure scorers.
Tony Leal led all scorers with 29. Becket Pfau was a big lift for the Packers, adding 17 on four three-point shots and 5-5 foul shooting. Keyton McGregor and Landon Troftgruben each contributed 11, and Bonfas Loria chipped in 10.
Ryan Larson knocked down 20 to lead Jamestown, with Dalton Lamp adding 17. Thomas Newman knocked in 15, and Noah Meissner, who had limited minutes at the finish due to foul trouble managed 14.
