VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City High School held its fifth annual school Poetry Out Loud competition on Tuesday, November 28.
Poetry Out Loud is a national program that encourages high school students to read, analyze, memorize, and recite poetry.
Seniors Ayden McPartland, Jaylen Heitzmann, and junior Cameron Huffstutler earned spots in the school competition by first winning their classroom recitation rounds.
Each contestant presented two poems selected from 1,100 options on the VCHS theater stage. The rounds were judged by volunteers from the VCSU English Club and teacher education program. Senior students also helped out with accuracy and prompting.
Ayden McPartland was named the school champion and will advance to state-level competition at the Heritage Center in Bismarck on February 26, 2024, for a chance to advance to Nationals in Washington, D.C. Congrats to all on their hard work!
