The University of Jamestown suffered defeat at the hands of Corban University (Ore.) in the final pool play matchup in four sets (25-19, 25-18, 21-25, 25-14).

Corban controlled the action in the first two sets never allowing the Jimmies to string any rally together to cruise to a comfortable two sets to none lead. The Jimmies, though down 20-15 in the third, would rally to force a fourth set. That rally would also be instrumental in giving the Jimmies the one seed in the tiebreaker standings (sets won/sets played). Ultimately, the Warriors from Corban would waste no time putting the Jimmies away in the fourth as they rolled to a 25-14 win to force the tiebreaker.

The Jimmies would end up squaring off with the Warriors again after Corban disposed of St. Thomas 25-19 in the first tiebreaker set, closing out the set on a 5-0 run.

The final tiebreaker set would be a war of wills with both sides looking like they would emerge victorious. Early on the Jimmies had the advantage 10-7 before a 7-0 by Corban gave the Warriors the 14-10 edge midway through the set. Both sides refused to let the other build any momentum until the Jimmies battle to take a 23-22 lead late. A 2-0 surge by Corban would put the Jimmies on the brink of elimination.

The Jimmies would battle back to force extras where both sides would take turns denying the other a spot in the quarterfinal round. Up 27-26 the Jimmies would handle a blast by Corban’s Rylee Troutman and baited the Warriors into anticipating a big blast before Lexi Olson dropped a floater behind the overanxious Warrior wall to win the match 28-26.

Jamestown will move onto the Quarterfinal Round against Indiana Wesleyan (35-0) with the opening serve set for 5:00 PM. That game will be broadcasted live on KQDJ.
