GRAFTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Carrington Cardinals and Grafton Spoilers played their first ever Class A Region 2 girls basketball contest on Friday night, Carrington defeats the number three team in the state by eight points, 57-49. Carrington is now 2-0 overall, 1-0 in Region 2, Grafton falls to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in Region 2.
There were two early ties at two and five, otherwise the Cardinals controlled most of the game, leading at halftime by 17 points, 35-18. Carrington hit eigth 3-pointers and had only six turnovers, the Spoilers hit five treys and had 16 TO’s. Leadin the way for Carrington was Kacie Rexin with 13, including three treys, Olivia Threadgold and Isabel Wendel added 12 each. Grafton was led by Addison Fredericksen with 12, Trinity Parsons had 10.
North Dakota implemented the three class system for High School Basketball this year, Class B, Class A and Class AA. Both Grafton and Carrington were Class B last season. Grafton finished runner-up to Thompson in the Class B Region 2 championship game, Carrington finished in third place in the Class B Region 3 tourney.
Next up for Carrington will be on Thursday, December 7th in Carrington against Bismarck Shiloh for a Class A non-region game, KDAK 1600/100.1 and newsdakota.com will have the game starting about 645pm.
