Ruth “Elaine” Peterson Beyer, life-long resident of Valley City, ND passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023. Elaine was born July 19, 1932, in a farmhouse in New Rockford, ND to Genene Caroline Hanson Peterson and Axel Wilhelm Peterson of Oberon, ND. Elaine was the youngest of six; her siblings were Enos Peterson, Lynn Peterson, Arlean Keister, Raymond Peterson, and Axel “Lindy” Peterson.
Elaine married Robert “Bob” Beyer on December 10, 1950, and celebrated 61 years together before Robert passed away in 2011. Together they worked with dedication and pride to create several businesses and restore old buildings in Valley City. Creating a place to call home for many residents in The Elks and Landmark Buildings gave Elaine great purpose.
Elaine enjoyed golfing, traveling, co-piloting with Bob, and sharing hospitality to the many friends who came through her door. Guests were sure to receive a good meal and many stories were told and memories made around the kitchen table that the family will treasure. She will always be remembered for her dedication to family, warm welcoming smile, work ethic, resilience, and homemade caramel rolls. We were blessed to have her in our lives and strive to carry forward the acts of kindness and love that she instilled in us.
Elaine is survived by her children Barbara Himmerick Scottsdale, AZ, Bradley and Cindy (Hannig) Beyer Grand Forks, ND and Jay Beyer and Jean (Leitner) Beyer Bismarck, ND. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren: Kristine, Kyle, Katie, Karalyn, Matthew, Bethany, Danielle, Laine and Laura. Elaine also had the joy of meeting 13 great grandchildren. Her extended family includes 25 nieces and nephews who adored her encouraging and loving personality.
Elaine was preceded in death by her siblings, husband Robert, son-in-law Terry Himmerick and two granddaughters Hope and Amber.
