The Jamestown Blue Jays had a matchup today with Fargo Davies for the 3rd place spot at 2 p.m. Jamestown entered the tournament with the 2nd seed in the west but was knocked out of championship contention in the semifinals last night in a matchup with WF Sheyenne. Fargo Davies came into the tournament as the east 4th seed but would be defeated last night by Shanley.
The Blue Jays and Eagles would be tied up at 3-3 before Fargo Davies would take back control of the lead and hold it for the rest of the 1st set. They extended their lead out to 15-9 after help early from Cayla Sailer, Leah Laqua, and Fallon Passante. Jamestown would battle to cut into the lead twice making it 17-15 and 18-16 with kills from Makenna Nold, and Leah Trumbauer as well as good defense at the net by Kinley Anderson. The Eagles though would pull away off 3 straight scores from Ava Graf with a shot that was sent out of bounds by Jamestown in between to make the score 22-16. The Eagles would go on to win the first set 25-18.
The 2nd set would start on a 6-2 run from Fargo Davies before Nold would put an end to the run to make it 6-3. The Blue Jays would battle back to 8-8 with help from a kill from Leah Trumbauer and some excellent defense from Jamestown. Jamestown would even hold a 2-point lead at 12-10 but the Eagles led by Sailer and Graf would come back and take a 2-point lead at 19-17. The Eagles would hold on to the lead the rest of the way and would win the set 25-22.
The 3rd and final set for Jamestown didn’t go to plan either. They would go down in the opening point, then tied it back up at 1-1 with a kill from Kinley Anderson. That would be the last time Jamestown would have the set tied in the 3rd. Sailer, Laqua, and Graff were firing on all cylinders to give the Eagles a 12-5 lead off a kill from Passante. The Blue Jays would fight through the struggles to cut the lead to 3 16-13 after a kill from Nold. Fargo Davies would go on a 6-1 run to push the lead back out to 6 at 22-14. Sarah Sletto would get an ace to make it 22-16, and then Passante would hit a shot out of bounds to make the score 22-17.
