JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Mark Watne, the President of the North Dakota Farmers Union, released a statement following the U.S. Senate’s approval of a House continuing resolution yesterday. The resolution allocates funds for the government and extends the 2018 Farm Bill until September 2024.

Watne expressed NDFU’s gratitude for Congress’ effort in passing the extension of the current farm bill. However, he emphasized the need for elected leaders to prioritize governance and actively engage in drafting the next farm bill. Highlighting the bill’s significance for farmers, ranchers, consumers, and national food security, Watne stressed the importance of providing certainty through a comprehensive farm bill.

The NDFU President pledged continued advocacy for a robust, bipartisan farm bill that enhances the farm safety net, improves disaster programs, and incorporates conservation provisions favorable to farmers. The statement concludes by noting the anticipation of President Joe Biden signing the bill into law.
