The Jamestown high school volleyball team came into the state tournament holding the 2nd seed in the west and would be matched up with the 3rd seed in the east, Fargo North.

The quarterfinal matchup would start with lots of intensity from both sides. Throughout the entire 1st set, neither team held more than a 2-point lead throughout. Makenna Nold, Addison Marker, Kendyl & Kinley Anderson would lead the way for the Blue Jays in the first set. Late in the first Jamestown was down 22-24 at set point. Nold would get a kill to bring it within one. Then Edie Hegerle would get a service ace to tie it up 24-24. Audrey Rydell for Fargo North would get a kill to push the score to 25-24 in favor of the Spartans. Nold would respond with a kill of her own and tie it back up at 25-25. Once more both teams would exchange points and it would be tied up at 26-26. Sienna Swanson would get a service error and give the Blue Jays a 1-point lead. Addison Marker would finish the set off with a kill and gave Jamestown a 1-0 lead.

In the 2nd set, it would be the Blue Jays ahead 16-13 after a kill from Marker. The Spartans would go on a run, including 2 kills from Solei, 1 kill from Ali Thykeson, and a kill from Anna Nelson that would get them the lead 22-16. From there Fargo North would finish out the set 25-18. After 2 sets it was tied up at 1 set a piece.

In the 3rd set, Jamestown came out hungry and after trailing 6-7 the Blue Jays would turn it up from there. Nold would tie it up at 7-7. Kinley Anderson would follow with a kill, and then Emma Houge would get a service Ace to give Jamestown an 8-6 lead. From there the Blue Jays would hold on to the lead extending it out as far as 18-14, but Fargo North would not go completely away. Thykeson would get a kill to make it 18-16, but Kinley Anderson would respond with one of her own to make it 19-16. After a kill from Nold to push the Blue Jays ahead 21-16, Thykeson would get another kill to make it 21-17. A couple points later, Nold would score the last 3 points for Jamestown giving them the 25-21 victory. Jamestown would lead 2-1.

The 4th set Jamestown looked to pick up where they left off getting out to a quick 4-0 lead. Solei and Thykeson would help get it tied back up at 4-4. Both teams would battle back and forth, but Fargo North would capture the lead at 9-8 and would slowly increase their lead to 17-13. Solei and Nold would have a battle, with Solei making 18-15 after a kill. Then Nold would get a kill of her own to make it 18-16. Solei would respond again but would then service error on the next serve to make it 18-19. Leah Trumbauer would get the tying kill at 19-19. But a service error would send the Blue Jays back down 19-20. Trumbauer would get another kill to make it 20-20. Rydell would follow with a spike down the middle, then Nold would respond with her own. Thkeyson would help push the lead to 23-21 for the Spartans and then Rydell would get 2 more kills to get the set victory and tie the match at 2-2.

In the 5th and final set, Nold would start strong for the Blue Jays getting her team’s 4 first points and it would be tied up at 4-4. Marker would get the next kill to give Jamestown the 5-4 lead. After a couple of errors from Fargo North, Jamestown would be ahead 7-5. Solei would get 2 kills back-to-back to make it 7-7 before she would get a service error and give the Blue Jays back the lead 8-7. Jamestown would go on a 7-2 run to end the set off the backs of Kinley Anderson will 3 kills, Hegerle with 1, and Trumbauer would get the final kill needed to get the victory in the 5th and final set. Jamestown would win 15-9 in the final set and 3-2 in the match.

Jamestown will be back in action tomorrow at 5 p.m. to take on the reigning champs West Fargo Sheyenne in the semifinals.
