ABERDEEN, S.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Police in Aberdeen are looking into a deadly shooting incident that occurred on Wednesday.
Around 12:15 p.m., the Aberdeen Police Department received a call and sent law enforcement and emergency medical services to the Aberdeen YMCA parking area regarding a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a man with an apparent gunshot wound.
Efforts to save the victim were made at the scene before he was taken to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The suspect was present when law enforcement arrived and was subsequently taken into police custody.
Authorities believe this incident was isolated and not connected to the YMCA.
As a precaution, the Avera St. Luke’s Hospital campus was put on lockdown due to its proximity to the incident.
An investigation is underway, and no names have been disclosed at this time.
