VALLEY CITY, ND (NewsDakota.com) The Viking volleyball team is dancing.
Valley City State has received an at-large berth into the NAIA national volleyball tournament. It’s the first time a Viking volleyball team has advanced to a national tournament.
The Vikings will play Central Methodist University in Fayette, MO Saturday, November 18th. Should the Vikings prevail, they would advance to pool play at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, IA November 29th.
Valley City State earned an at-large berth after falling the semi-finals of the North Star Athletic Association tournament in Watertown, SD last Friday. The Vikings are 22-9 overall, and have been received votes in the national poll since mid-September.
Among their most notable wins of the year was a 3-0 sweep of the University of Jamestown, the defending national champions. They also defeated Bellevue, NE, Ottawa, KS, and Dakota Wesleyan, all teams to have been ranked at some point this season.
Central Methodist is 22-10, and was runner-up in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. They finished the season ranked 21st nationally.
