FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The South Border Mustangs had a chance to tie the game with time winding down in the fourth quarter, they started on their own 32-yard line with 3:32 left in the game. They would drive all the way to the 10 yard line, get two plays off and move to the one yard line, they would try and spike it before time expired to get another play off, but it was to late. North Prairie wins the 9-man State Championship over South Border 16-8. NP improves to 12-1, SB drops their first game of the year and finish state runner-ups at 12-1.
South Border scored the first TD of the game, when RB Cole Stock ran in from first and goal on the one yard line almost four minutes into the first quarter. NP scored the next two TD’s, both by QB Blake Mattson. His first TD was with about six minutes left in the second quarter for a four yard touchdown run. His second, was the only score of the second half, with about :36 seconds left in the third quarter, it was a 2-yard touchdown run.
Sophomore QB for South Border Berkley Frantz was 11-19, 139 yards and three interceptions and 12 carries for 90 yards. Senior QB for North Prairie Blake Mattson was just 1-3 for 23-yards, he had 20 carries for 102 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, he ended up with 53 total touchdowns for the year.
