(ND Ag Connection) – The North Dakota State University Extension and the University of Minnesota Extension are launching a webinar on sheep and goat care on November 20. The event will provide detailed information on fencing and grazing for small farm animals, with Jonathan Kilpatrick from the Sustainable Farming Association guiding the discussion. Kilpatrick will recommend different fence types and effective grazing methods.

Travis Hoffman, an Extension sheep specialist with both NDSU and UMN, endorses the topic’s relevance, advocating for advanced grazing planning as an essential aspect of small ruminant care. Kilpatrick’s presentation will explore the dual goals of pasture health and optimal forage output, incorporating insights relevant to diverse livestock species and multi-species grazing setups.

Brenda Miller, a UMN Extension educator, emphasizes the importance of adaptable grazing practices in response to changing weather patterns and other environmental variables, as well as the necessity for sturdy and reliable fencing to protect livestock.

The webinar is open to a wide audience, including farmers, ranchers, 4-H members, agricultural professionals, and anyone with an interest in sheep or goats.
