The Fargo South Bruins never let Valley City get out of first gear in Saturday’s play-in round matchup, cruising to a straight sets win (25-17),(25-20), and (25-13).
The first set of the night was reminiscent of the last time these two squared off, as South raced out to a sizeable early advantage of 13-2. Although the Hi-Liners would outscore South 15-12 the rest of the way in the first set, the early deficit was too much to overcome as the Bruins collected a 25-17 set victory.
The next set would again be a case of Deja Vu from their previous encounter, as the second set mimicked the fourth set from their last meeting, with Valley City creating a four-point cushion midway through the set. The Bruins, though, would adjust defensively, shutting down the Valley City attack, while getting the better of the play in front of the net to take a 25-20 set win.
The third was a clinical performance from the Bruins that, while it lacked a sizeable run like the first, saw a series of medium runs that wrapped up a dominant 25-13 third-set victory to seal a straight-sets win.
For the Hi-Liners, their season will end at 6-14 as Seniors Hadley Thoreson, Addy Kvilvang, and Drew Potratz all finished up their Hi-Liner volleyball careers.
