The Valley City Hi-Liners volleyball team closed out the regular season with a straight-set over the Devils Lake Firebirds (25-22)(25-13)(25-12).

In the first set, both Devils Lake and Valley City came out on edge as a multitude of mistakes by both sides left the door open for either side to seize control. Eventually, Valley City would build just enough of a gap to pull out a 25-22 win in the first set.

The second and third sets, though, would be a completely different story as the Hi-Liners would build up sizeable gaps to ride to two commanding set wins. The second saw the Hi-Liners race out to a 8-0 lead before Devils Lake rallied to cut the lead to 8-6 after a timeout. After the initial scare, Valley City would outscore Devils Lake 17-7 to close out a 25-13.

Though not as flashy as the second set win, the third set was a show of execution as a series of short runs helped Valley City race out to a 10-point lead midway through the set. Kadie Kocka was the one that put the game away for Valley City, but Jovi Borg was the star of the day for the Hi-Liners, racking up double-digit kills to go along with a couple of aces.

The Hi-Liners finish the regular season at 6-13 as they wait for an official announcement determining their play-in matchup this weekend.
