NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) After an exciting come from behind win against the Loboes of Lamoure/Litchville/Marion on Saturday in the 9-man quarterfinal playoffs, 24-18, the Rockets of New Rockford/Sheyenne/Maddock will host the Mustangs of South Border on Saturday, November 4th at 2pm in the semifinals. South Border beat Hettinger County 28-24 to get to the semifinals with NRSM.
The Rockets are the number two overall seed and are 10-0 overall, the Mustangs are the three seed overall and are undefeated as well at 11-0. They will meet for the first time on Saturday and the winner will advance to the Dakota Bowl at the Fargodome on Friday, November 10th. The other semifinal on Saturday will be Westhope/Newburg/Glenburn hosting North Prairie in Westhope, the winner of this one will advance to the Dakota Bowl and meet the winner of NRSM/SB. There will be a new champion crowned in 9-man this year, as New Salem/Almont, the defending state champs, did not qualify for the playoffs this year.
The Rockets last made the Dakota Bowl in 2012, they won the championship that year by defeating Divide County. South Border is seeking their first ever Dakota Bowl appearance.
