120-celebration-5

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – It is not everyday that you get to celebrate a 120-year-old historic building that has housed an important source of educational, informational, and entertainment needs for our community for all of those 120 years. In fact, the 120th Celebration of the Valley City Barnes County Public Library took place on the same day it opened 120 years ago! The October 5th celebration also included the dedication of the library’s newly remodeled children’s space made possible through a gift given to the library by Trevor, Travis, and Tyler Bjerke in honor of their parents Jack and Diane Bjerke’s 50th Anniversary. The new children’s play area is named Di’s Den in honor of Diane Bjerke for her years serving as director of the library and her many years of serving on the library board, volunteering, and leading programs.

Anita Tulp, Director of the VCBC Public Library said I would like to thank everyone that came and shared their library stories, support, and dedication to the library. Special thanks to Board members Hilde van Gijssel and Kelsey Ihry for helping plan and implement the celebration, to Wild Prairie Bakery for the beautiful cake and cupcakes, to Leevers Foods for the wonderful sandwiches, and to all the medial outlets for helping us get the word out. I also want to thank our awesome library staff for making the library sparkle for this fun and memorable event.
