The regular season for the Hi-Liners ended in anti-climatic fashion as they fell 31-14 to the Fargo South Bruins to close out their regular season Valley City will now have to sit back and wait for the QRF standings to see if they made the playoffs.
The game started with an early three and out from the Hi-Liners as the Bruins would waste no time putting points on the board as Damarion Semanko ripped off a 37-yard touchdown run to give the Bruins an early 7-o lead. The Hi-Liner defense would buckle down forcing a turnover on downs and a punt that set up Valley City in great field position.
A slow methodical drive for Valley City eventually ended up in a short touchdown pass for Bryson Heck as he found an open Derek Shape to tie the game at 7-7. The Bruins though would respond with a lengthy drive that ate up most of the remaining first half and punched it in for a go-ahead touchdown with a little over a minute remaining as the game would head into the half with the Bruins leading 14-7.
The second half saw an exchange of punts before the Bruins once again commenced a long drive that resulted in another touchdown. The Bruins would tack on a field goal after Valley City threw an interception to make it a 24-7 lead. Heck would fire one last defiant salvo as he connected with Jonah Harstad for a 65-yard touchdown pass to shrink the deficit back down to ten.
But in the end, the Bruins were too much as they added on another touchdown late to make it a 31-14 lead and smothered the Hi-Liners the rest of the way to close out a senior day win. The Hi-Liners will finish the regular season 4-5 and if they are selected to make the playoffs will most likely face undefeated Fargo North in the first round.
