WAHPETON, N.D. (KFGO/NewsDakota.com) – A Wahpeton man is now facing a more serious charge in a hit-and-run in which a Wahpeton woman later died.
The Richland County State’s Attorney’s Office has upgraded the charge against Chad Olson, 52, to criminal vehicular homicide. Olson is accused of hitting Bailey Bernstein, 20, as she was walking with her mother on 11th Street near the Wahpeton Airport last Thursday night. Bernstein died Saturday at a Fargo hospital.
The State Patrol investigation found that Olson’s blood-alcohol level was .11 not long after he arrived at his home where he was arrested. Olson claimed that he’d had three cans of beer over four hours and thought that he’d hit a mailbox or dog.
