The University of Jamestown football team picked up their 2nd win of the season against Mount Marty University this afternoon at Charlotte and Gordan Hansen Stadium winning 24-13.  Mount Marty University would score first on a 6 play, 22-yard drive that took up 2:24 ending in a 29-yard field goal from kicker Maxwell Welch. Mount Marty would take the lead 3-0 with 12:32 left in the 2nd quarter.

Carlos Julian made a house call on the first play of the next drive, running for 75 big ones. That run was the longest run of the season for the Jimmies and longest run going back the last few seasons. 7-3 Jamestown would lead after the 1 play, 75-yard, touchdown drive with 12:19 left in the 2nd quarter. Welch would deliver a 35-yard field goal for the Lancers cutting the deficit to 1 with 4:09 left in the 1st half. The Jamestown Jimmies would respond on a 4 play, 90 touchdown drive that only took 1:40 off the clock that ended in a 25-yard touchdown catch for receiver Isaiah Roebuck.  Carlos Julian on that drive had a 67-yard catch that got the Jimmies into good field position which was the longest reception on the season for the Jimmies. 14-6 Jamestown would lead at half.

To start the 2nd half, UJ would drive the ball 10 plays for 71 yards ending in a 10-yard touchdown run for running back Zachariah Hammett. That drive would take 4:16 off the clock, giving Jamestown a 21-6 lead with 10:44 left in the 3rd quarter. Mount Marty University would respond to start the 4th quarter with a 10-play drive for 73 yards ending in a 20-yard touchdown reception for receiver Jonah Miyazawa from quarterback Ken Gay II making the score 13-21 with 11:23 left in the 4th quarter.

Jamestown’s defense would hold up well through the 4th quarter and Aanon Peterson would drill a 28-yard field goal to give the Jimmies a 24-13 lead with 3:08 left in the game and no timeouts remaining for Mount Marty.  The Lancers couldn’t respond with a score, Rex Ryken would fumble the football (Parker Chaffee forcing the fumble) after making a 16-yard catch at the UJ 28-yard line. Mason Parker would recover the ball at the UJ 30, and the Jimmies would go into victory formation, closing the game out 24-13.

The University of Jamestown will be home again next week against Dordt University. The Jimmies are now 2-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 PM.
