A Celebration of Life for Jon Richard Nilles, 60, of Valley City, North Dakota will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City. The burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Valley City. Jon passed away unexpectedly at home on October 3, 2023.

Jon Nilles was born September 8, 1963, in Valley City, North Dakota to Harold and Elaine Nilles. He grew up in Valley City and in 1987 moved to the Phoenix, Arizona area. Jon attended Columbia University studying Environmental Science and Policy. He returned to Valley City in 2008 to help care for his mother and then his father after the death of his mother. Jon had a generous heart and was willing to help anyone out. He was known to have the ‘gift of salesmanship’ as his mother was fond of saying, “He could sell ice to an Eskimo and think they got a deal.” Jon was interested in photography, hunting, and the environment.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Elaine. He is survived by his sister Sharon (friend Michael McCrossin) of Bangor, Maine. He is also survived by his numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
