Mayville, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes are now one step away from the postseason after blowing through the May-Por-CG Patriots by a final score of 40-0.
The game started out relatively even with neither team able to score or get very far in the first quarter. The game would shift towards Oakes in the second however as they would have 3 interceptions in the quarter with Marcus Garza, Trey Skoglund, and Max Walock all picking off Ryder Fugleberg.
The 2nd quarter started with a march down the field by the Tornadoes resulting in a 13 yard reception by Walock from Blayson Dolney in the endzone with 10:01 left. After missing the extra point the Tornados were up 6-0. The next score wouldn’t happen till late in the quarter when Fugleberg would throw a pass down the middle only for it to be intercepted and returned 30 yards to the endzone for a pick-6. The Tornados would then be up 12-0 with 1:41 left. The next offensive play by the Patriots was another interception this time by Walock. On the follow up play by the Tornadoes Beau Thorpe would hop in at quarterback and find Dolney for a 58 yard TD reception to make it 20-0 with 1:13 left in the half.
The second half was more of the same for Oakes as the opening kickoff went to Skoglund who would then lateral to Dolney who would return it to the house for a 90 yard return making it 27-0. Skoglund wouldn’t have to wait long for his own offensive touchdown as he would run 34 yards to the 1 yard line then push it in on the follow up play making it 34-0 which is how the quarter would end.
The next scoring play was Thorpe through the air to Reese Nitshke from 22 yards out with 5:15 left in the game which would give the final score of 40-0.
The Bank North Player of the Game was Trey Skoglund.
The Tornadoes rise to 3-2 inside of Region 1 while MPCG falls to 1-4 eliminating them from playoff contention. The Tornadoes are win-and-in this upcoming weekend as they get ready to take on Lisbon that game can be heard both on KDDR The Tornado and on 106.1 Thunder Country.
