Kindred, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornados fell in volleyball action on Monday September 25th to the Kindred Vikings in Kindred by a final score of 3-2 (25-20, 15-25,  25-21, 18-25, 15-13).

The match started with all Vikings in set 1 as they would jump out early on a 10-2 run. The Tornados were unable to put up much of a response as the lead expanded to 20-9. Oakes would then begin to push back scoring 11-5 in the last half of the set however it’d be too late as Kindred would take the set 25-20.

Set 2 was all Oakes as they would jump out to an early 4-1 lead which would suddenly balloon to 14-6. Oakes would not let off the gas petal as Anne Muggli, Brianna Schmitz, and Lily Thorpe led the Tornados to 25-15 set win.

Set 3 was a back and forth affair with neither team getting an edge till late in the set. There would be 11 ties and 5 lead changes in the set. The final tie would be 17-17 before the Vikes found a second gear and went on a 7-2 run to make it 24-19. The final score would be 25-21.

Set 4 saw more back and forth play with 9 ties and 5 lead changes. The set would be back and forth until 18-18 when the Schmitz and Thorpe once again put the team on their back to force set  five with a 25-18 win.

Set 5 was a tale of two halves. The Tornados jumped out to a huge early lead going up 9-3 right away. However that lead would quickly dissipate with Kindred scoring 5 straight to make it 9-8. Oakes would again lock it down and go up 12-8 before the Vikings fought to a 12-11 game and then a 13-12 game. That’d be all the points Oakes would get before Kindred won the set and the match 15-13.

The Bank North Player of the Game was Brianna Schmitz with a terrific all around game.

The Tornados now travel up to Wimbeldon to take on Barnes County North in District 5 play on Thursday September 28th. Pregame starts around 6:45 on KDDR The Tornado.
