In a game that saw many ups and downs it was ultimately a game that would end a major downer as Valley City fell in five sets to the now 6-2 Horace Hawks.
The first set saw Valley City establish an early five point lead that they would maintain all the way throughout the set as the took the set 25-20. A major factor in the set was the play of Junior Jovi Borg who put the game away with a thunderous kill.
The Hawks however would come out with a vengeance in the second a they blitzed past the Hi-Liners 25-12 to re-establish momentum to the home side. Most H-Liner scoring opportunities that set were hoovered up by Horace Libero Alyssa Sommerfeld who saved countless points for her squad throughout the contest.
The third set would be a war of attrition as bot sides left the door open and it looked like that Horace was seizing control of the set late leading 20-17 coming out of a timeout. But Valley City would rally to tie the game and take the lead late before Sophomore Dacota Potratz picked up a the set clinching kill to give Valley City a 2-1 edge after winning the third 25-23.
The fourth would be another war of attrition but this time there would be no late rally for the Hi-Liners as the net play of Horace’s stellar Freshmen Jordan Christofferson sealed a 25-18 set win to force a tiebreaking fifth set. The fifth would be a battle but a few mistakes midway through the fifth allowed Horace to establish a four point lead that they would ride to an ultimate 15-11 win in the fifth to take the match.
The next opponent for Valley City will be Thursday as they’ll be back in West Fargo to take on the Packers at 7:00pm.
