Oakes, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes picked up their first District 5 victory of the season as they swept the Ellendale Cardinals in straight sets (25-15, 26-24, 25-21).

The match started off all Tornadoes as they controlled almost ever aspect of play in set 1. They would jump out to a 4-0 lead as Mallory Domine would have back to back aces. They would not look back in set one and win it 25-15.

Set 2 started much the same with Oakes jumping out to a 4-1 lead however Ellendale would battle back and eventually take the lead. They would build that lead to 11-7 before the Tornadoes battled it back to 12-11. The Cardinals would find another gear after that and build the lead back up to 19-14 before Oakes would slowly chip the lead away coming even at 22-22 and 23-23. Oakes would then get 24-23 then 25-24 to win it 26-24.

Set 3 started completely differently with Ellendale jumping out to a 3-0 lead. Oakes and Ellendale would then go through 5 ties and 4 lead changes before the Cardinals jumped out to a 15-10 lead. They would trade points back and forth up till 21-15 in favor of Ellendale. Oakes would not go quietly into the goodnight and went on a 10 point run to win the set and the match 25-21.

The Bank North Player of the Game was Ann Muggli who had 11 kils, 2 solo blocks, and 2 assisted blocks.
