On a rather breezy Monday West Fargo Sheyenne showed why they were one of the top tennis teams in the state as the dispatched Valley City 9-0 in EDC play. The Hi-Liner tennis team got a preview of this hi-level competition over last weekend they traveled to Sheyenne for the Sheyenne Invitational Tournament.

Head Coach Matt Nielson once again highlighted the growth his team made going up against not only a hi-level team like the Mustangs but also against some less than ideal weather conditions.

“We haven’t had a truly windy day in practice before, so today was really a trial by fire in the gale force winds. Figuring out the toss while serving was tough. As it was a south wind, each side played totally different. Being ready to step in and hit with heavy topspin was needed when with the wind. Against the wind, holding your ground, unit turning fast, and attacking the ball in front kept the ball deep and kept players in points.”

“Most of our players kept learning on the court and played second sets and second matches better than the first. Experiencing the wind with a good attitude leads to growth as a player in the wind.”

The next action for the Hi-Liners will be Wednesday as they’ll be taking on West Fargo at 4:00pm.
