The University of Jamestown Jimmies football team traveled to Hastings, Nebraska to take on the Hastings College Broncos. The Jimmies were 0-3 on the season coming into the contest, losing 2 – one-possession games in week 1 and 3 to VCSU and Concordia.

Jamestown would get on the board first in a low-scoring first half. Running back Carlos Julian caught a 19-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ty Monson. Aanon Peterson’s kick was good; the score was 7-0, with 3:31 in the 1st quarter after the 11-play, 53-yard drive.  Hastings would respond with just 47 seconds ticked off the clock in the 2nd quarter on a 9-play, 82-yard touchdown drive capped off by a 9-yard touchdown catch from Tanner-James Friend on a pass from quarterback Eli Nappe. Casper Feijen’s kick was good and 7-7 was the score.

Feijen would score a 24-yard field goal with 3:29 left in the 2nd quarter to give the Hastings Broncos a lead, but that would only last till the end of the half when Peterson would make a 29-yard field goal leaving no time left in the 1st-half on a 6 play, 11 yard drive making the score 10-10 at the half.

The third quarter was all defense from both squads with no scores coming for either team.

To start the 4th quarter that would change quickly. Hastings College would score just 46 seconds into the 4th quarter on a 7-play 40-yard drive that was finished off by wide receiver Will Austin making a 16-yard touchdown grab from Nappe. Feijen’s kick was good making the score 17-10.

On the next drive, the Jamestown Jimmies would get down to the 21-yard line after driving 63 yards on 11 plays,  taking up 6 minutes before Ty Monson would be sacked and fumbled the football. Hastings would recover the football with 8 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Jamestown would have a defensive stand holding the Broncos at mid-field and got the ball back at their own 28-yard line with about 5 minutes left in the game.

For a moment things got hairy for the Jimmies, with Monson throwing an interception near midfield but a penalty away from the ball took the interception and Jamestown got the ball with a fresh set of downs on the Hastings 44-yard line with about 2 minutes to play in the ball game. Monson scrambled with 1:10 left in the ball game and found receiver Ryan Collins for 13 yards bringing the Jimmies down to the Hastings 19-yard line. On the next play, Monson passed incomplete but was given a penalty for intentional grounding pushing the Jimmies back to the Hastings 34-yard line. 2 more incomplete passes later would lead to 4th and 25 when Monson would be sacked by Caden Egr with 36 seconds left in the game turning the ball over on downs.

The Hastings College Broncos would escape with the victory 17-10. This moves the University of Jamestown to 0-4 on the season as they will return back home to Charlotte and Gordon Hansen Stadium to take on Doane (NE).
