VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier Rebels defeated the Carrington Cardinals in the pre-quarters of the Valley City Volleyball Tournament on Saturday afternoon 2-0 (25-21, 25-16). With the win, EKM will play Langdon Area/Edmore/Munich in the quarterfinals, Carrington eliminated.

The tourney started early Saturday morning with 22 teams in six pools. Carrington played in Pool F at the Rec Center court #2. In the first match right away at 8am, Carrington split with Oakes (26-24, 19-24). In match two for them, they beat Maple River 2-0 (25-18, 25-20) and in the third and final match in pool play, the Cardinals beat North Border 2-0 (25-23, 25-16). The seedings for the tournament from Pool F were as follows; Oakes one seed, Carrington the two seed, North Border three and Maple River four. Oakes and Carrington advanced to the championship bracket, North Border and Maple River into the consolation bracket.

In that championship bracket, the Cardinals met the number one seed from Pool B and fellow District 5 team, EKM, in the pre-quarterfinals in the High School gym. The EKM Rebels would go on to defeat Carrington for the second time this year, they played in Carrington on September 7th and they won 3-0.
