The Packers may have come in with a 1-2 record but they wasted no time in trying to dispel any thoughts about this being a down year in West Fargo as they cruised to a straight sets win over Valley City.
In the first set the H-Liners would get off to a promising 6-2 start before West Fargo would put up eight unanswered points to seize control of the opening set. A big reason for the domination in the early set was the combination of powerful play at the front of the net and the good defensive play of libero Raina Chwialkowski who robbed the Hi-Liners of several points. West Fargo would dominate the middle and later stages of the first set to win 25-14.
In the second set the Hi-Liners would once again get off to a promising start before West Fargo seized control in the middle stages. However, the serving of eight grader Brynn Lueck was able to pull Valley City back to within striking range before the Packers put the second set away 25-21.
The third set was academic for West Fargo as they seized the momentum early on and never let Valley City mount a rally to make it interesting in the final set as the won 25-14 to close things out. Along with the play of Chwialkowski, the likes of Ava Halvorson, Ellee McIntosh, and Aurey Morris provided an unrelenting wave of hard hits the the Hi-Liners were unable to handle on the day.
For Valley City they’ll look to regroup as they’ll be set to host the Fargo Davies Eagles on Thursday.
