VALLEY CITY, ND  (NewsDakota.com, photo courtesy of vcsuvikings.com)  This Viking volleyball team has just raised it’s expectations.

With a retuning roster of standout North Dakota players and the addition of a key transfer, the Vikings moved to 5-2 with a pair of wins Friday, including a convincing win over 14th-ranked Ottawa, KS in non-conference play at Bellevue University in Bellevue, NE Friday.

Oakes, ND native setter Sadie Hansen finished the day with 89 assists in a 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-22) win over Lindsey Wilson, followed with a 3-1 (25-22, 15-25, 25-20, 25-15) win over Ottawa.

Bailey Nelson, an Argusville, ND native and standout from Northern Cass, recorded 13 kills in both matches.  Mardi Scutchings, a senior transfer from Kelvington, SK, knocked down 14 kills against Ottawa, and 10 against Lindsey Wilson.  It was a breakout game for the 6-0 right side, who is expected to make a significant impact offensively this season.

Danielle Hagler, a Cando, ND native, had 10 kills against Lindsey Wilson, while Edmore, ND native Morgan Freije had 10 in the win over Ottawa.

The Vikings continue play in Bellevue Saturday, with their conference opener at Dickinson State Wednesday, September 13th
