Carrington, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—-Carrington scored 33 unanswered points to start the game and rolled to a 33-8 victory over Cavalier. The Cards held a 27-0 halftime lead and scored on their first possession of the third quarter to lead 33-0 and a running clock until the Tornadoes got on the board midway through the fourth quarter.
Corbin Clifton scored 3 touchdowns and McKade Zink added a pair of touchdowns to lead the Cardinals offense. Clifton had touchdown runs of 18 yards and 4 yards and also added a 15 yard receiving score. Clifton finished with 34 rushing yards on 6 carries and 2 receptions for 15 yards. Zink had 2 carries for 5 yards and a score and had 2 catches for 58 yards including a 54 yard touchdown catch to open the scoring up with 3:04 to go in the first quarter. Josh Bickett completed 8 of 13 passes for 94 yards and a pair of scores and added 3 carries for 21 yards. Logan Weninger was the leading rusher with 84 yards on 12 carries.
Cavalier was paced Logan Werner and JJ Thorpe offensively. Werner had 39 rushing yards and added 3 catches for 72 yards. Thorpe had 41 rushing yards on 6 carries including a 10 yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Thorpe also hauled in the 2 point conversion a pass from his starting quarterback and brother Breckon Thorpe. JJ added 4 catches for 36 yards. Breckon went 12-24-165-0-2 passing. Zack Anderson added 5 catches for 57 yards.
Carrington did not have any turnovers in the game and picked off Thorpe twice, McKade Zink had both of the interceptions for the Cards. Cavalier falls to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the region and the Cardinals improved to 2-1 overall and in the region. Carrington will travel to Thompson next Friday night for another Region 2 matchup starting at 7:00 P.M. with a pregame starting at 6:30 0n AM 1600 KDAK (THE CARDINAL), FM 100.1, and www.newsdakota.com
