OAKES, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes started their volleyball regular season on solid foundation taking down the Lisbon Broncos by a final of 3-1 (25-13, 25-16, 22-25, 25-10).

Set 1 saw the Tornadoes jump out to a big lead early and hold onto it. They would jump out to a 9-2 lead and eventually expand the lead to 23-11. Lisbon would fight back a bit but it wouldn’t be enough as Oakes would take the set 25-13.

Set 2 was more of the same with Oakes jumping out to a 9-1 lead early in the set which they would hold onto expanding it to 22-13. The Broncos would not go quietly however and fight to make it 24-16 before Oakes would take it 25-16.

Set 3 saw the Broncos come alive. This time it was Lisbon’s turn for an early 5-1 lead. Oakes would fight back and take a 7-6 lead before the Broncos went on a 7 point run. Oakes would slowly chip away but the Broncos would eventually get set point at 24-19. The Tornados would fight it to 24-22 before a service error undid the comeback to give Lisbon the set 25-22.

Set 4 was all Oakes once again. They would go on three 5+ point runs during to set to get the commanding set 4 victory 25-10 and win the match 3-1.

The Bank North Player of the game for Lisbon was Kendra Differding. The Bank North Players of the Game for Oakes was a combination of Ann Muggli, who 11 kills and 4 solo blocks, and Bethany Harris, who had 27 set assists and 9 digs.

The Tornadoes rise to a record of 3-2 while Lisbon falls to a record of 3-4.

Lisbon’s next game will be on August 31st at home against Hankinson.
