VALLEY CITY, ND (NewsDakota.com) Noah Tulp and Jon Koenig picked up wins for Valley City in the first ever quad tennis tournament in Fargo Friday.
Tulp won two matches over Wahpeton and West Fargo players, while Koenig defeated a Wahpeton competitor.
The Hi-Liners placed fourth in an event that used a round robin format and used the total number of sets won to determine placewinners. Fargo North won the title, with Wahpeton and West Fargo tying for second.
“Noah had himself a day,” said Hi-Liner head coach Matt Nielson. “He placed his shots beautifully and consistently leading to his opponent to be on defense. If the opponent got the ball back in, Noah placed it a second time to win the point.”
Miles Taylor played #1 singles, Colin Hoff played #2, with Kellen Westman rotating in at #2 and also splitting time at #3 with Quin Kruger. Cole Haugen held the #4 spot, Tulp played #5 with Matthew Holm rotating in at #5 and also splitting time with Koenig at #6.
“Noah and Jon earned the wins, but they couldn’t win without the #1 through #4 players above them,” added Nielson. “Anytime a player below you on the ladder gets a victory, you were a part of that win by holding your spot, giving your teammate a better opportunity to win.”
