It’s been a great week for walleyes up here on Devils Lake. We have caught lots of fish and they are ranging in every size imaginable! The lake is healthy with small fish and a nice mix of bigger walleyes too. The combination of good spawning and good management of the system just keeps Devils Lake firing on all cylinders. The future is extremely bright.
I say this all the time about Devils Lake. It’s a lake that gives you the choice of how you like to catch walleyes. Not a lot of systems across the globe will give you this opportunity. Pick the way you like to catch these fish and go for it. They will respond!
This week we have caught walleyes using bottom bouncers and spinners, and we have also spent a decent amount of time jig fishing. You can catch fish trolling and casting cranks as well.
Weed edges, roadbeds, humps, and old shorelines are the places where the bulk of the walleyes are being caught. Depth doesn’t seem to matter.
I’ll be switching gears back to Sakakawea next week, so stay tuned for an updated report from there!
