VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Avis Richter is retiring from her position as City Finance Director.

Richter has been employed by the city since December of 1997. She has been the Auditor/Finance Director since February of 2006.

She told the city commission; it’s been good serving the city for 25 and a-half years.

The Valley City Commission appointed Brenda Klein to become the next City Finance Director. Brandy Johnson will become the next Deputy Auditor for the city starting August 12th of 2023.

And Phil Hatcher is stepping down as the police chief this month too.

Mayor Dave Carlsrud and city commissioner Dewey Magnuson thanked Phil Hatcher for his 16 years of service with the Valley City Police Department.

Valley City Administrator Gwen Crawford told the city commission that 8 people have applied for the police chief position. She said once that field of candidates is narrowed to 3, the city will announce the names of the finalists.
